Andrina LAWRY

Andrina sadly passed away on 7th March 2023, aged 69 years.

Loving mother to Alan & April, doting grandmother to Caylee, Merrick, Kieran, Aiden, Charlie & Jackson and sister to Yvonne, Kerry, Gary & Dwana.

Andrina will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.

Andrina was born on 13th February 1954 to Corporal Ronald Alan Lawry & June Margaret Lawry. The middle of 5 children, Andrina lived with her family in the Army Barracks, Colchester before moving to Germany shortly after she was born.

Her first school was the BFES School in Herford, Germany before the family moved back to the UK, where they lived in the Kingston Army Barracks, London. Thereafter, Andrina’s father was posted to the Far East, and Andrina attended the Royal Alexandra &Albert Boarding school in Surrey, whilst having the opportunity of spending all her school holidays in Hong Kong and Malaysia for circa 5 years, before the family moved to Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire and subsequently Volis Hill, Taunton in Somerset.

In 1972, aged 18, Andrina followed in her father’s footsteps and joined the British Army, Royal Signals. Her first posting was to Germany, where she met Howard.  In 1975, Andrina left the Army and moved to Cyprus where she and Howard were married, and had their first child Alan, in 1980.

In 1982, Howard was posted to Northern Ireland. He was joined by Andrina and Alan and their family expanded with the birth of their daughter April. The family moved in 1985 to Celle, Germany and then to Ramstein in 1987, before moving back to the UK in 1992 to Andover.

Sadly, Andrina and Howard later separated, however, in 1999, Andrina moved to live in Swansea where she made a new civilian life for herself closer to Alan, who was based in Haverfordwest.

She was fortunate to have her daughter April close by, and over time 3 of her grandchildren. Later, her son Alan, moved slightly further away to North Wales, but this did not stop her from being a doting grandmother to all 6 of her grandchildren.

Being the first to pass away, Andrina sadly leaves behind all of her siblings.

Tributes:

“I first met Hugh as baby when Ian, and Evelyn came on their annual family visit. Thereafter we met just about every year as Hugh adopted his father’s love of the Highlands, particularly of Strome Ferry and Kyle of Lochalsh where Ian was born and brought up. Hughs’ uncles, aunts and cousins loved his accent and bubbling personality and he soon became a well known lad in the village. When I made a memorable visit to Dunvant he proudly showed me around and was happy to introduce me to the Colins family , particularly Agnes. When I came to live in Edinburgh, Hugh would break his long rail journey to and from Kyle and stay with me.
He was named after Hugh ( Hughie) the Mackenzie’s youngest son who was killed in Italy near the end of the war in 1945. And indeed I remember Ian calling him Hughie.
I last saw him at Ian’s funeral. Although we sadly we lost contact he’ll always stay in my mind.
Rest in Peace, Hugh.”

Philip Mackenzie

“So sorry to hear of Hughs passing. My brother and I have not seen Hugh since he was a young man who used to visit his Dads relatives in Kyle, Scotland . My Dad and Hughs Dad were first cousins . We remember his enthusiasm for the Scottish Highlands and he always enjoyed his stays there. RIP Hugh”.

PERSONAL TRIBUTES TO ROY

‘Roy lived opposite me when I was younger and was a great friend to my Mother who has also sadly gone now. He was a joker and full of smiles and the joy of life, every time I saw him he was happy. He was particularly happy chopping wood and cutting down my trees with the chainsaw!

Although the trees can now sigh with relief!! The rest of us will miss him and the happiness that he spread’.

Mark Collings

’I had the chance to meet Roy only for a few times but his kindness and his smiles do remain in my memory!

You could see clearly in his face the love for his wife and kids.

His memory will remain in our hearts forever’

Penny Abatzi

‘I remember the day well!

Ali had been a dear friend and colleague at school for the last six years and now she was getting married!

I was honoured to be asked to do the wedding flowers. I was so happy for her. She was marrying her Knight and Soulmate. Roy was her passion and inspiration. Roy was genuine, kind and had a great big heart. He was easy to talk to and always had a smile and a great sense of humour. He had an exciting life ahead.

Michael and I often recall and giggle at the wonderful and witty wedding speeches.

He lived life to the full.

Roy will be greatly missed but has been an inspiration to many.

Forever in our hearts’

Jane and Michael Duffy

'Roy always had a welcoming smile when I first met him at Llanmorlais Hall at the Labour Party meetings. He was a real gentleman and I'll remember him fondly. My sincere condolences to Ali and the children'

Peter Jeremy EKIN-WOOD

Peter sadly passed away on the 9th of December 2020 at the age of 81. He will be missed by so many people and leaves behind his wife Shan, his three daughters; Abi, Kim and Tiffany and his four grandchildren.
Peter grew up in East Sussex with his brother Steve and sisters Nicky and Sandy and his mother Gladys and father Gerald. He loved his career as a press photographer and photography remained his passion and hobby throughout his life and he was President of Newport Photographic club for a number of years. He also worked as a sub editor for the South Wales Argus and owned an antique shop with his wife Shan. Shan and Peter bought an 18th century farm house called Glyn Gwyn Farmhouse and restored it to its glory over 40 years. The house became the family home and the place of wonderful memories. Peter kept himself busy with DIY projects on the house and later on making things for his beloved grandchildren.
He moved to the Gower peninsular with his wife Shan 6 years ago for a better quality of life and enjoyed many walks and meetings at beach cafes and pub lunches with his family. He loved watching and playing with his grandchildren.
He really enjoyed his holidays and travelled all over the world including Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Africa.
Those who knew him will know he was a real gentleman, he was caring, always listened and had a great sense of humour. He had strong morals and believed that happiness in life should always come before jobs and money and always encouraged his children to pursue a career that they love.
Peter was a nature lover, he started bird watching as a child and continued to enjoy spending time outdoors, taking photographs of animals, birds and landscapes. He also loved wildflowers and taught his children to appreciate nature and how it can enrich your life. For this reason, we have chosen a charity that supports wildlife, nature conservation and creating the right habitat for nature to thrive, the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales. The charity manage a large number of sites on the Gower and many of them are near to where Peter lived and enjoyed visiting such as Port Eynon beach. In lieu of flowers, we are sure Peter would have appreciated a donation to this charity to continue the work they do.
Peter’s funeral will be held on the 8th of January at Bishopston church by invite only due to numbers. He will be buried at Oystermouth woodland burial site overlooking the Mumbles and the sea.
